I think you have posed a wonderful question. I don’t know how many African Americans are walking for exercise in Spokane, but I think everyone should make it a habit. I no longer live in Spokane, but I enjoy a stroll around my neighborhood because it gives me time to relax my mind, get some some on my face, and some fresh air.
My father also has diabetes and has really benefitted from walking in Spokane. He was able to reduce the amount of prescriptions he had to take to control the condition without taking one step into the gym. Instead he walked his way to better health.
Maybe this website can get a group together to do a weekly walk and then eventually you all can walk Bloomsday…might be fun.

I should walk more. the fact that I do not is lazyness not discomfort. Having grown up in this neighborhood I am comfortable here. I have noticed more African and African Americans walking in the neighborhood. I think however that most are walking to and from buses or schools not for exercise or pleasure. I never see black joggers or cyclists. I don’t know if that is because we are getting out exercise somewhere else or if like me they are not exercising. What gyms if any do blacks in Spokane workout at?
