Rogues Gallery Presents Emerging Designers for 2013!

The Rogues Gallery Presents Emerging Designers event has been a labor of love for the past seven years. It now attracts more than 1000 persons to the live show, and for the second year will be held Sunday, Feb 10th. Doors open at 4pm. Located at Hotel Pennsylvania in New York City, 401 Seventh Ave., across from Madison Square Garden. The fashion forward designers whose collections are selected for inclusion in the RGP group show, are mostly independent businesses who create and sell limited edition lines to stores, have garnered some press and wish to expand their lines into more retail outlets.

This season’s fashion show will feature designs by:
Franklin Rowe, Urban Masala by Sehar Peerzada, Willie Hall, Diane Liston, 7T7 by Tarique Tabani, Corinne Monique,  Mikasa La Charles.

Fashion Art Xchange also known as FAX was founded by Gwen Sargeant in 1994 and was created to provide a networking exchange for people of color in fashion and the arts. This includes retail, design, and anyone working within these industries. The organization also provides seminars, educational opportunities and scholarships for deserving students. Fashion Art Xchange will help to create a gallery of fashion history featuring 20 years of F.A.X.  Images and video of their past events will be on public display. F.A.X. will also supply high school and college interns to help the Designers with backstage production, front of house, production setup and break down. All F.A.X. members are trained and managed by F.A.X. staff.

Mozart Playing in Manito Park

July 18 was a beautiful warm summer evening in Spokane’s favorite park – and Connoisseur Concerts’ Mozart on A Summer’s Eve’s 21st birthday. This popular event in Manito Park was well attended as always. Dinners from Luna at tables, picnics on blankets on the lawn, loungers in lawn chairs, everyone relaxed to the songs of the program Ciao, Belle Donne!  Colleen Bryant Palmer,Heather Steckler Parker and Heather Peterson sang solos, duets, and together sang the Three Ladies Trio from The Magic Flute. They were accompanied by special guest Zuill Bailey on the cello and the Connoisseur Concerts’ Ensemble: Keri McCarthy and Bethany Schoeff, oboe; Daniel Cotter and James Schoepflin, clarinet; Roger Logan, Margaret Wilds and Verne Windham, horn; Susan Hess and Ryan Hare, bassoon; Kim Plewniak, string bass.   See my digital images of the event . . . . . .

Seen Around Town Exhibits – by ichoosethesun

As a resident of the DMV (DC, Maryland and Virginia), it’s easy to take all that the city has to offer for granted. Seen Around Town will be a series of posts where I will share information about various events in the DMV area.
Saturday was a beautiful day in DC so I decided to head downtown to catch a couple of exhibits that have been on my to-do list. The first was:

The Black List exhibit at the National Portrait Gallery.
From the website:
Historically, “blacklist” denotes a group of people marginalized and denied work or social approval. In an effort to redefine the term, these portraits of 50 African Americans reclaim the term “blacklist” to be affirming, influential and powerful.
Timothy Greenfield-Sanders and Elvis Mitchell worked together to develop a list of people whom they thought would represent the African-American experience in the 20th century. Greenfield-Sanders created large-format fine-art photographs, and Mitchell interviewed the subjects on film; the portrayals provide insight on the struggles, triumphs and joys of black life in the United States.
This exhibit is visually stunning and there were several people on the “list” that I had no prior knowledge of.  The interviews are funny, candid and inspiring. The Black List reminds us of the infinite number of contributions African-Americans have made to the world beyond the “usual suspects”. This is a FREE exhibit and family-friendly.
